Welcome to the
Nene Valley Medical Practice Publication Scheme. This is a guide to the General
Practitioners’ Dr Nick Fletcher, Dr Kevin Stanton-King, Dr Steve Walker, Dr
Sanath Yogasundram, Dr Dave Marr and Dr Sue Rogers (who practice together)
within the partnership Publication Scheme as required by the Freedom of
Information Act 2000
IIntroduction
This Publication Scheme is a
complete guide to the information routinely made available to the public by the
Nene Valley Medical Practice. It is a description of the information about our
General Practitioners and Practice, which we make publicly available. It will be
reviewed at regular intervals and we will monitor its effectiveness.
How
much does it cost?
The publications are all free unless otherwise indicated
within each Class
How
is the information made available?
The information within each Class is either downloadable from
the practice website or available in hard copy from the Nene Valley Medical
Practice, Clayton, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, PE2 5GP. It can be obtained by
contacting reception or directly by contacting the Practice Manager at the above
address.
Your
rights to information
·
In addition to accessing the information identified in the
Publication Scheme, you are entitled to request information about the Nene
Valley Medical Practice under the NHS Openness Code 1995.
·
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 recognises that members
of the public have the right to know how public services are organised and run,
how much they cost and how the decisions are made.
·
From January 1st 2005 it will oblige the Nene
Valley Medical Practice to respond to requests about information that it holds,
and is recorded in any format and it will create a right of access to that
information. These rights are subject to some exemptions, which have to be taken
into consideration before deciding what information it can release.

New environmental information regulations may be introduced
as early as 2003. These will enable similar access to environmental information
as under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
·
Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you are also entitled to
access your clinical records or any other personal information held about you
and you can contact the Practice Manager, Nene Valley Medical Practice, Clayton,

CLASSES OF INFORMATION
All
information at the Nene Valley Medical Practice is held, retained and
destroyed in accordance with NHS guidelines. Our commitment to publish
information excludes any information, which can be legitimately withheld under
the exemptions set out in the NHS Openness Code or Freedom of Information Act
2000. Where individual Classes are subject to exemptions, the main reasons are
e.g. the protection of commercial interests and personal information under the
Data Protection Act 1998. This applies to all Classes within the Publication
Scheme. The information on this Scheme is grouped into the following broad

The practice is a training
practice and may at times have a doctor working in the premises who will be
completing their final training in General Practice.
We also, at times, host
medical students on attachment from Addenbrookes Hospital Medical School.
- The
Practice has a local Personal Medical Services contract with the South
Peterborough Primary Care Trust
We work closely with our
local hospitals and consultants, referring mainly to Peterborough District
Hospital and the Edith Cavell Hospital and also to hospitals with specialist
facilities at Leicester, Cambridge and London or where the Primary Care Trust
contracts to provide care.

follow National institute for Clinical Excellence and National Service Framework
Guidelines
- The
NHS is a very large part of the public sector. A fill list of local General

- The
Nene Valley Medical Practice provides general medical services for the
geographical area of Orton Goldhay, Orton Malborne, Orton Wistow, Orton
Longueville, Orton Waterville, Hampton, Woodston, Alwalton, Chesterton and
South Bretton.
- Some
information will be withheld, including personal, confidential information
about individuals, which is protected by the Data Protection Act 1998.

Our Services
The Practice
offers a broad range of general medical services and private services. We
provide full NHS services to our patients including child health surveillance,
immunisations and vaccinations, contraceptive services, maternity care, cervical
cytology, minor surgery, medical examinations, chronic disease management
including diabetes and asthma, cryocautery, well woman and well man checks,
health promotion, anti smoking advice and weight reduction advice.
District Nurses,
Midwives, Macmillan nurses, Counsellors, Community Paediatricians, Dieticians,
and Community Psychiatric Nurses liase closely with the Practice and use the
facilities of the Premises for the purposes of seeing patients.
Confidentiality is
paramount with regard to computerised and written information. In the case of
Child Protection issues it is a legal requirement that some sharing of
information between agencies may be required.
Within our
premises operate a Health Visiting Team who provide the following services
1.
Community and public health
Community health
needs assessment; Surestart; Collaboration with other agencies e.g. EYDCP,
Homestart, Drug agencies, Special needs and disability, Feeding Matters group;
Local partnership working e.g. Community safety, Cook and eat, Baby sitting
course; Parent and Child groups.
2.
Child Development
Antenatal
assessment; New birth visit; 6 week review; 8 month review; Review of
development at 2 and 3 years; referral pathways for paediatrician, audiology,
ophthalmology, neonatal jaundice, speech and language, Child Development Unit/
SENCO, Direct access child urology clinic.
3.
Health and Welfare of the Family
Child protection;
Feeding issues within the family; Behaviour management; Bereavement support,
post natal depression assessment and ongoing support; Drug misuse, violence
within family or sustained by under 16’s, Alcohol abuse, anger management,
self esteem problems, housing, benefits advice, Referrals to appropriate
services in both voluntary and maintained sectors; Transfer in: - assessment of
need.

Practice premises and hours of opening
The surgery is open from 8.15am to
6.00pm Monday to Friday and closed 12.30pm to 2.00pm each day. Surgery times are
Monday to Friday 8.15am to 10.15am, 2.00pm to 3.30pm, and 4.00pm to 5.30pm.
Saturdays (emergencies only) open 8.30am to
10.00am.

Out
of hours
Between the hours
of 18.30 and 07.00 weekdays and 12.00 Midday Saturday to 07.00 Monday morning,
calls are handled by Peterborough Doctors on Call (PDOC).
PDOC operates
from the Rivergate Primary Care Centre, Viersen
Platz, Bourges Boulevard, Peterborough PE1 1SE. Callers
may initially speak to a trained nurse advisor who may offer advice, invite the
patient to attend, or authorise a home visit. All the doctors working at PDOC
are local GPs working in a co-operative.

The Nene Valley Medical Practice staff and doctors all have
access to the Language Line using speakerphones in the consulting rooms or the
confidential room at reception. 29 Languages are covered including Arabic,
Albanian, Aharic, Bengali, Chinese, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Gujarati,
Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Kurdish, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian,
Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tigrinya, Turkish, Tamil,
Urdu and Vietnamese.

clinical interests of the doctors include: -

Dr Marr: - Respiratory medicine
Dr Stanton-King: - Sports medicine and
diabetes
Dr Walker: - Respiratory medicine, minor
surgery and orthopaedics.
Dr
Yogasundram: - Rheumatology and acupuncture.

Financial and funding information
Funding details and charging policies
·
The Nene Valley Medical Practice receives money from South
Peterborough Primary Care Trust according to its contract (as per Class 1 above)
in exchange for services provided for patients.
·
The total income received from the NHS before expenses in
2002/2003 was £542 084.
·
The sum spent on drugs prescribed by the Nene Valley Medical
Practice in 2002/2003 was £ 863 345
·
There may be circumstances where material cannot be released
because it is confidential or commercial information or the appropriate officer
designated for these purposes under the Act has taken the view that it may be
prejudicial to the conduct of the Practice’s affairs.

Regular publications and information for the public
The Nene Valley Medical Practice provides an information
leaflet detailing the Practice staff, opening hours, contact details, surgery
hours, out of hours arrangements, repeat prescription details and services
offered. It also has a website (http://www.nenevalleysurgery.org.uk/)
which gives more detailed information, items of news, and access to repeat
prescribing services and email contact with the practice staff.

This Publication Scheme
In this class we will publish any changes we make
to this Publication Scheme, the criteria on which our information management
policies are made and a referral point for all enquires regarding information
management generally in the Trust. We will also publish any proposed changes or
additions to publications already available.
Cost
of Information
For the most part, we will charge you only for hard
copies or copying onto media (e.g. floppy disc or CD ROM). Some information is
available free, but for others there may be a charge. The charges will vary
according to how information is made available. Charges are as follows:
a) Via the
Nene Valley Medical Practice Trust Web Site (www.nenevalleysurgery.org.uk)
–Free of charge, although any charges for Internet Service provider and
personal printing costs would have to be met by the individual
For those
without Internet access, a single print-out as on the website would be available
by post from Nene Valley Medical Practice, Clayton, Orton Goldhay
Peterborough, PE2 5GP (enclosing a Stamped addressed envelope) or by
personal application at the Nene Valley Medical Practice, Clayton, Orton
Goldhay Peterborough, PE2 5 GP.
However, requests for multiple printouts, or for
archived copies of documents, which are no longer accessible or available on the
web, may attract a charge for the retrieval, photocopy, postage etc. We will let
you know the cost and charges that will have to be paid in advance. We will not
provide printouts of other organisation’s websites.
b) Leaflets and brochures-free of charge for leaflets or
booklets on, for example, services we offer to the public. A Practice
Information Leaflet is available from the Nene Valley Medical Practice,
Clayton, Orton Goldhay Peterborough, PE2 5GP and can also be downloaded from
the website.
c)
“Glossy” or other bound paper copies, or in some cases a CD Rom, floppy
disc, video or other mediums, which may be made available from time to time,
are for charge as in our publication lists available from Nene Valley Medical
Practice, Clayton, Orton Goldhay Peterborough, PE2 5GP.
d)
E-mail-will be free of charge unless it says otherwise
